Vince takes us to sunny Mexico to look at a golf course that is blessed with not one, but two lighthouses on the tip of the Baja California Sur. While the area beckons with it's pristine golf courses and resorts, the real treasure are the lighthouses hundreds of feet above the thrashing surf.

00:00:00.330 --> 00:00:03.490
Hi everyone, I'm Vince and I'm Emily and you're

00:00:03.490 --> 00:00:14.250
listening to the lighthouse lowdown Welcome to

00:00:14.250 --> 00:00:16.690
the show one of the very few times I get to touch

00:00:16.690 --> 00:00:19.190
this button Don't look at the screen for a second.

00:00:19.230 --> 00:00:24.410
Okay Gotta get up our get up our slides All right,

00:00:24.469 --> 00:00:26.570
let's go to the very last slide. So I think that's

00:00:26.570 --> 00:00:30.000
kind of the beginning. All right Now we're on.

00:00:30.140 --> 00:00:33.859
Excellent. I'm at a 200 % zoom on my screen.

00:00:34.159 --> 00:00:37.039
So as you may hear, we're a little bit rusty,

00:00:37.240 --> 00:00:40.920
especially myself behind the microphone. So we're

00:00:40.920 --> 00:00:44.219
back in the game. Welcome to episode 73. Is there

00:00:44.219 --> 00:00:45.799
anything you want to say about today before we

00:00:45.799 --> 00:00:49.039
get taken off? Any pointers? Well, I have returned

00:00:49.039 --> 00:00:52.219
to the Lucky Charms latte that I had from Scooters

00:00:52.219 --> 00:00:55.280
last time. And I'm having it again, even though

00:00:55.280 --> 00:00:58.560
now I'm supposed to be on a diet. You may proceed.

00:01:00.060 --> 00:01:03.939
Everybody understands that. So, first thing first.

00:01:05.500 --> 00:01:07.500
Today we're going to talk about one golf course,

00:01:07.620 --> 00:01:11.980
two lighthouses. Wait, what? I know. I thought

00:01:11.980 --> 00:01:15.819
when I first saw it on the screen, I thought

00:01:15.819 --> 00:01:17.659
that you were going to be covering, I don't know,

00:01:17.700 --> 00:01:22.219
multiple golf courses. Multiple lighthouses.

00:01:22.340 --> 00:01:24.359
Really? But this seems to be more interesting.

00:01:24.540 --> 00:01:25.939
Why did you think that? Where did you see that?

00:01:25.939 --> 00:01:27.159
Because I remember you saying that you wanted

00:01:27.159 --> 00:01:30.200
to do coverage of lighthouses at golf courses.

00:01:30.579 --> 00:01:32.359
So I figured that was going to be more of an

00:01:32.359 --> 00:01:35.280
expansive coverage. I kind of gave that away,

00:01:35.379 --> 00:01:38.239
huh? I like this. Our partner, Joey the Cat,

00:01:38.359 --> 00:01:40.579
has settled in. Good. He's ready to listen, too.

00:01:41.560 --> 00:01:45.099
Here comes Bo. He also wants to do that. I mean,

00:01:45.120 --> 00:01:46.760
I guess I'll try. If everybody else is in here,

00:01:46.819 --> 00:01:49.359
then I guess I will too. So one golf course,

00:01:49.459 --> 00:01:52.859
two lighthouses, episode 73, the lighthouse history

00:01:52.859 --> 00:01:54.620
buoy for the day. What do you think? You have

00:01:54.620 --> 00:01:58.780
one. Of course. How many golf balls have broken

00:01:58.780 --> 00:02:02.260
lighthouse windows? I don't know. But the history

00:02:02.260 --> 00:02:07.060
buoy of the day is what's the deal with lighthouses

00:02:07.060 --> 00:02:09.620
and golf courses? Okay, because there are a couple.

00:02:10.180 --> 00:02:14.199
It turns out there are a lot, actually. So I'm

00:02:14.199 --> 00:02:16.659
going to get to the content of our episode today

00:02:16.659 --> 00:02:21.240
because I found an article that inspired me.

00:02:21.360 --> 00:02:24.560
It was Lynx Magazine, which is obviously about

00:02:24.560 --> 00:02:26.840
golf. Oh, yeah. It's a golf -focused article,

00:02:26.960 --> 00:02:30.580
but it was the top lighthouses in golf, top 10.

00:02:31.099 --> 00:02:34.599
Number six on the list was, can you have a guess?

00:02:34.939 --> 00:02:38.039
Highland Lighthouse? Highland Lynx, yes. Excellent.

00:02:38.080 --> 00:02:40.879
So it was the top lighthouses in golf, not necessarily

00:02:40.879 --> 00:02:44.039
the best. Golf courses that have lighthouses.

00:02:44.139 --> 00:02:46.400
Oh, there is some, there's some crossover, like

00:02:46.400 --> 00:02:50.800
the best lighthouse at a golf course versus the

00:02:50.800 --> 00:02:53.319
best golf course. Okay. At a lighthouse. So it's

00:02:53.319 --> 00:02:55.699
more lighthouse forward than golf forward. This

00:02:55.699 --> 00:02:57.900
particular article. Yes. Okay. Which is kind

00:02:57.900 --> 00:03:00.520
of interesting for a golf magazine, especially

00:03:00.520 --> 00:03:03.740
an internet publication. But, um, they have like

00:03:03.740 --> 00:03:06.960
the history of each one in their, in their article.

00:03:07.799 --> 00:03:10.500
They had a quick overview. I can actually bring

00:03:10.500 --> 00:03:13.080
it on screen here. I'm kind of curious. Just

00:03:13.080 --> 00:03:15.259
like how well are they representing? Oh, I can't

00:03:15.259 --> 00:03:19.599
view it anymore. Hold on. What's another? You

00:03:19.599 --> 00:03:21.240
could probably still scroll down. It's just that

00:03:21.240 --> 00:03:22.939
you couldn't see it very well. What's another

00:03:22.939 --> 00:03:28.479
browser? Firefox. You have that on your computer?

00:03:28.740 --> 00:03:30.139
Just one minute. I just need one minute. I can

00:03:30.139 --> 00:03:33.199
hack into the mainframe. I just need one minute.

00:03:33.280 --> 00:03:35.599
I can hack. I can hack in. Just give me one minute.

00:03:37.549 --> 00:03:39.430
Look, three of three free articles remaining

00:03:39.430 --> 00:03:42.550
this month. Amazing. Thanks, Lynx Magazine. And

00:03:42.550 --> 00:03:45.509
thank you, Firefox. I'm going to zoom. Zooming

00:03:45.509 --> 00:03:47.990
in. Well, so I can see. I've got the old man

00:03:47.990 --> 00:03:50.789
glasses on. So we're not going to read the whole

00:03:50.789 --> 00:03:52.990
article. No, I just want to see how much they're

00:03:52.990 --> 00:03:55.009
working. I'll give you an example. So we'll go

00:03:55.009 --> 00:03:57.969
Tasmania. This one's beautiful. Cobble Beach.

00:03:58.090 --> 00:04:00.550
Oh, my gosh. Amazing. It's been added to my list.

00:04:00.669 --> 00:04:03.229
We'll come back. It's added to your list? Uh

00:04:03.229 --> 00:04:05.740
-huh. I latched onto that so fast. I was like,

00:04:05.780 --> 00:04:09.259
I'm doing that. Fine. I'll leave it. So here

00:04:09.259 --> 00:04:11.300
we have the coverage of Highland links. And if

00:04:11.300 --> 00:04:14.240
you don't know, when we visited Cape Cod, we

00:04:14.240 --> 00:04:17.180
played nine holes at Highland links. I kind of

00:04:17.180 --> 00:04:19.120
wish we played 18, but it is a nine hole course.

00:04:19.379 --> 00:04:23.639
Yes. We think it's the oldest links in the United

00:04:23.639 --> 00:04:28.240
States. And it's a, it's, I've only played a

00:04:28.240 --> 00:04:29.920
couple of links style courses, but we'll talk

00:04:29.920 --> 00:04:32.639
about that. What that means is it's along the

00:04:32.639 --> 00:04:36.459
water. There's usually not a lot of trees. The

00:04:36.459 --> 00:04:38.879
characteristics of the golf course are such that

00:04:38.879 --> 00:04:41.680
it's based on the beach landscape. So there's

00:04:41.680 --> 00:04:45.240
sandy greens. This one was built in the 1800s,

00:04:45.240 --> 00:04:50.180
but their coverage here says North Truro, Massachusetts,

00:04:50.519 --> 00:04:53.180
which is accurate. It's a nine -hole treasure

00:04:53.180 --> 00:04:55.579
perched along cliffs overlooking the Atlantic

00:04:55.579 --> 00:04:58.519
Ocean. The Scottish -inspired course, which had

00:04:58.519 --> 00:05:00.980
originally had sand greens when it was founded

00:05:00.980 --> 00:05:03.649
in the late 1800s, is one of the oldest golf

00:05:03.649 --> 00:05:05.870
facilities in Cape Cod, and it's situated next

00:05:05.870 --> 00:05:07.810
to the Highland Light Station that's owned by

00:05:07.810 --> 00:05:09.589
the National Park Service. Okay, so they don't

00:05:09.589 --> 00:05:11.610
have a lot of details. They actually really don't

00:05:11.610 --> 00:05:13.370
have any details about the lighthouse. Yeah.

00:05:13.930 --> 00:05:16.810
They have good photos, and then I think they

00:05:16.810 --> 00:05:18.610
want you to kind of delve further. Yeah, they

00:05:18.610 --> 00:05:20.490
want you to do your own research. So there's

00:05:20.490 --> 00:05:24.629
this, and then another citation of mine on this

00:05:24.629 --> 00:05:28.069
episode. So this is like the top ten also. Kauai.

00:05:28.089 --> 00:05:31.069
I was mad I missed this one. Oh, beautiful. When

00:05:31.069 --> 00:05:35.000
I was in Kauai. Ireland. Oh, yeah. Incredible.

00:05:35.519 --> 00:05:38.980
Hey, hey, hey. We should do that honeymoon style.

00:05:39.459 --> 00:05:43.139
Go to a golf course. Ireland? Yeah, not in March

00:05:43.139 --> 00:05:47.060
or January or February. What? I think Ireland's

00:05:47.060 --> 00:05:50.279
more of a summer trip. If anyone knows about

00:05:50.279 --> 00:05:54.180
Ireland and wants to reach out, please do so.

00:05:54.420 --> 00:05:56.000
That's one of the... I'm going to get sidetracked,

00:05:56.100 --> 00:05:58.759
but look at this. This green right by the base

00:05:58.759 --> 00:06:02.560
of Maine. See, that is... rip rap that i actually

00:06:02.560 --> 00:06:08.160
want to walk over it's flat so i mean as far

00:06:08.160 --> 00:06:11.579
as i know the the beginning of this you're gonna

00:06:11.579 --> 00:06:13.920
see our location we're talking about one golf

00:06:13.920 --> 00:06:16.939
course two lighthouses today uh came from my

00:06:16.939 --> 00:06:20.560
research for our honeymoon then if you're not

00:06:20.560 --> 00:06:24.800
familiar emily and i are getting married married

00:06:24.800 --> 00:06:28.160
in december of this year yep married you wait

00:06:28.160 --> 00:06:31.699
for me to do that every time and uh So I'm looking

00:06:31.699 --> 00:06:34.560
to plan a honeymoon. Yeah, I put him in charge

00:06:34.560 --> 00:06:38.379
of honeymoon. But now I'm kind of like, I'm getting

00:06:38.379 --> 00:06:42.819
tense because I usually have my fingers all in

00:06:42.819 --> 00:06:46.879
the pie of vacation planning. So it makes me

00:06:46.879 --> 00:06:49.060
nervous to just be like, what are you cooking

00:06:49.060 --> 00:06:54.519
up over there? Yep, I cook a lot. When it comes

00:06:54.519 --> 00:06:57.360
to these types of pies. Well, golf course and

00:06:57.360 --> 00:07:00.170
lighthouses. That sounds like an amazing activity

00:07:00.170 --> 00:07:02.290
for a honeymoon. It does. It crosses our two

00:07:02.290 --> 00:07:09.490
interests at the deepest level. Also, I will

00:07:09.490 --> 00:07:13.370
say this author who did this article, I can't

00:07:13.370 --> 00:07:16.269
find his name. Oh, Eric. I was going to say called

00:07:16.269 --> 00:07:21.449
Brian. Eric M. He also mentioned in the other

00:07:21.449 --> 00:07:23.649
article that I read that shows more lighthouses

00:07:23.649 --> 00:07:26.550
that there are several golf courses that have

00:07:26.550 --> 00:07:29.029
the word lighthouse in them. That have no lighthouse.

00:07:29.269 --> 00:07:31.850
Oh. Or that the lighthouse is not even visible.

00:07:32.129 --> 00:07:33.829
Like it's, yeah, it's over there. Yeah. Like,

00:07:33.829 --> 00:07:35.949
oh, we're close by. It's 1 .2 miles on the other

00:07:35.949 --> 00:07:38.910
side of this. You sully the name. Like if you

00:07:38.910 --> 00:07:40.310
look up lighthouse, you're going to find a lot

00:07:40.310 --> 00:07:42.490
of church stuff. If you're in our area. Yes.

00:07:42.490 --> 00:07:45.589
Like beacons of hope sort of thing. The lighthouse

00:07:45.589 --> 00:07:47.410
church. They don't even have a lighthouse. We

00:07:47.410 --> 00:07:49.089
have lighthouse stuff around us. And I'm like,

00:07:49.170 --> 00:07:53.189
whatever. So, so what's the deal, right? That's

00:07:53.189 --> 00:07:55.769
the history of Bowie. We talked about Highland

00:07:55.769 --> 00:07:58.230
Links. We get it. If you get to one of these

00:07:58.230 --> 00:08:01.410
courses, especially Highland Links, in our experience,

00:08:01.610 --> 00:08:03.949
you'll understand that there's a significant

00:08:03.949 --> 00:08:05.949
crossover where you could just go and play golf,

00:08:06.029 --> 00:08:08.529
and the lighthouse is a key feature of the things

00:08:08.529 --> 00:08:10.269
you're going to look at. It's beautiful. It's

00:08:10.269 --> 00:08:14.629
awesome. First -order lens. But if you just go

00:08:14.629 --> 00:08:17.269
to the lighthouse, you're also going to be going

00:08:17.269 --> 00:08:19.889
through the golf course property, which is true

00:08:19.889 --> 00:08:23.139
of a lot of these things. There's a crossover

00:08:23.139 --> 00:08:25.459
right there. There's local history and culture

00:08:25.459 --> 00:08:27.519
around lighthouses and some of these historic

00:08:27.519 --> 00:08:31.220
courses, uh, links style courses are always on

00:08:31.220 --> 00:08:34.659
the coast. And so often our lighthouses. Yeah.

00:08:34.779 --> 00:08:37.620
Um, and then like we talked about the view, it's

00:08:37.620 --> 00:08:39.019
a, it's a wonderful view to have a lighthouse

00:08:39.019 --> 00:08:42.600
and a coastline. So exciting. That's my buoy

00:08:42.600 --> 00:08:46.860
of the day. And we are back. It's like a picture

00:08:46.860 --> 00:08:49.700
that's. Relevant to our thing today? It sure

00:08:49.700 --> 00:08:52.159
is. This is one of the two lighthouses at the

00:08:52.159 --> 00:08:55.159
golf course. This photo's a little blurry, and

00:08:55.159 --> 00:08:56.379
you're going to probably see it again later.

00:08:56.600 --> 00:08:58.399
But if you look down to the left, you're going

00:08:58.399 --> 00:09:02.340
to see some fairways. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Where would

00:09:02.340 --> 00:09:11.299
you guess that this is? Oh. I see Rocky, maybe

00:09:11.299 --> 00:09:15.480
some cactus. So I'm going to say Arizona. Is

00:09:15.480 --> 00:09:18.649
it close? It's kind of close. We're in America?

00:09:19.129 --> 00:09:27.129
No. Okay. Mexico? It is Mexico. And now that

00:09:27.129 --> 00:09:30.690
we say that, I can say there's going to be a

00:09:30.690 --> 00:09:32.490
lot of mispronunciations in here. Sorry, folks.

00:09:32.610 --> 00:09:35.250
I never took any Spanish at all. No. Albanyo,

00:09:35.250 --> 00:09:38.289
I think, is bathroom. Por favor, I think, is

00:09:38.289 --> 00:09:42.429
please. And I think faro is lighthouse. Yeah.

00:09:42.490 --> 00:09:46.210
I think. Yes. So just get that out there. Um,

00:09:46.429 --> 00:09:49.970
but I'm going to interrupt not for a message

00:09:49.970 --> 00:09:52.750
from our sponsors, but instead for a Google maps

00:09:52.750 --> 00:09:55.149
view of where we're going. You love that. So

00:09:55.149 --> 00:09:57.730
we're going to go down to Mexico. I read the

00:09:57.730 --> 00:10:00.929
tip of the little, uh, arm. Yeah. So that's the,

00:10:00.929 --> 00:10:03.889
the Baja, California, Baja, California, sir,

00:10:04.129 --> 00:10:07.669
which I think is South. Oh, okay. Surface below.

00:10:07.750 --> 00:10:11.240
I don't know. I'm trying. But right at the tip,

00:10:11.259 --> 00:10:13.639
and this is Cabo San Lucas. So when people talk

00:10:13.639 --> 00:10:15.659
about Cabo San Lucas, this is where it's at.

00:10:15.899 --> 00:10:18.200
If you're going to visit Mexico. Wait, Cabo,

00:10:18.220 --> 00:10:22.580
is that somewhere tropical? Or like, is that

00:10:22.580 --> 00:10:24.600
where people vacation? It's a big vacation destination.

00:10:24.980 --> 00:10:27.620
So people say Cabo San Lucas. They talk about

00:10:27.620 --> 00:10:30.700
Cancun. Anyways, Cancun and then Puerto Vallarta.

00:10:30.980 --> 00:10:32.679
Hey, Belize, I've been there. These are the names

00:10:32.679 --> 00:10:35.080
we hear often. I didn't know that it was connected

00:10:35.080 --> 00:10:40.340
to Mexico. I was a child. Oh, my gosh. So Cabo

00:10:40.340 --> 00:10:45.379
San Lucas is kind of actually a small town, but

00:10:45.379 --> 00:10:47.620
there's lots going on here. And the lighthouse

00:10:47.620 --> 00:10:50.840
that we were just looking at. So there's Ferro

00:10:50.840 --> 00:10:53.759
de Cabo San Lucas, which is the one we had in

00:10:53.759 --> 00:10:56.080
the image. And then the second lighthouse is

00:10:56.080 --> 00:11:00.299
Ferro Viejo, which is the old lighthouse. It

00:11:00.299 --> 00:11:03.559
looked like ruins. But there's several golf courses,

00:11:03.679 --> 00:11:04.940
and we're going to talk about one in particular.

00:11:04.940 --> 00:11:07.720
It's down here. So Playa, I think, is beach.

00:11:08.580 --> 00:11:15.159
Quivira. So we have a street in our city called

00:11:15.159 --> 00:11:20.580
Quivira. I read that it's pronounced Quivira.

00:11:21.080 --> 00:11:25.480
Yeah, I can see that. So again, I don't Spanish.

00:11:25.840 --> 00:11:28.360
Sorry, everyone. But I'm going to close out of

00:11:28.360 --> 00:11:30.960
maps for now. So now you get an idea where we're

00:11:30.960 --> 00:11:34.220
at. But this is El Ferro Viejo, which is the

00:11:34.220 --> 00:11:38.379
old lighthouse. I want this type of stone architecture

00:11:38.379 --> 00:11:43.460
for my future house. It's a little bit Pueblo

00:11:43.460 --> 00:11:47.080
style. Yeah. Which makes sense being in Mexico.

00:11:47.299 --> 00:11:51.279
How old? 1905. Okay. Not that old, surprisingly.

00:11:51.580 --> 00:11:56.720
But I think it's in a rough area as far as weather

00:11:56.720 --> 00:12:00.179
goes. And the construction is really interesting

00:12:00.179 --> 00:12:01.700
of this lighthouse. So we're going to talk about

00:12:01.700 --> 00:12:04.610
this lighthouse mostly. And the other one, I'll

00:12:04.610 --> 00:12:06.330
just mention what I found. I didn't find a lot,

00:12:06.350 --> 00:12:09.429
to be fair. So this is the old lighthouse. It's

00:12:09.429 --> 00:12:12.309
hard. Any lighthouses outside the U .S. aren't

00:12:12.309 --> 00:12:14.769
as well documented. Yeah, yeah. Anytime we get

00:12:14.769 --> 00:12:17.789
south of the border or north of the border or

00:12:17.789 --> 00:12:23.110
east or west of the border. So the old lighthouse

00:12:23.110 --> 00:12:28.389
at Cabo Falso, Cabo San Lucas. Faro de Cabo Falso,

00:12:28.490 --> 00:12:32.429
Los Cobos, Baja California Sur, Mexico. Wow.

00:12:33.340 --> 00:12:37.820
Go, Vince. Founded the 5th of May in 1905. Nice.

00:12:37.980 --> 00:12:41.639
There was a celebration each year on Cinco de

00:12:41.639 --> 00:12:49.059
Mayo. You need to say it right. Every year, Cinco

00:12:49.059 --> 00:12:52.700
de Mayo. Just wanted to make sure. I can tell

00:12:52.700 --> 00:12:54.740
you, this is not my language. We go to Germany,

00:12:54.840 --> 00:12:57.600
I have a chance. I've had some German lighthouses.

00:12:58.039 --> 00:12:59.740
We haven't covered any of those. I don't think

00:12:59.740 --> 00:13:03.659
we have. Yeah. So I've got. Four pictures here.

00:13:03.740 --> 00:13:05.940
This is the first of four that are from the year

00:13:05.940 --> 00:13:08.820
2015. There's a big celebration. Like we said,

00:13:08.860 --> 00:13:11.340
there's a celebration every year. It's the oldest

00:13:11.340 --> 00:13:13.799
structure in Cabo San Lucas. Oh, really? Yeah.

00:13:13.860 --> 00:13:16.860
What? Before anything else? Or is it still surviving?

00:13:16.860 --> 00:13:19.039
The oldest is still surviving. Okay. Now, as

00:13:19.039 --> 00:13:21.379
you're going to see, there's lots of development

00:13:21.379 --> 00:13:24.919
in Cabo San Lucas, probably due to tourism. Also,

00:13:25.080 --> 00:13:28.659
like, I don't know how to say this, second homes.

00:13:28.980 --> 00:13:32.960
Oh. Very nice destinations, whether those be

00:13:32.960 --> 00:13:39.039
Mexican or international guests. So 2015, there

00:13:39.039 --> 00:13:40.620
was a couple of pictures taken. The credit's

00:13:40.620 --> 00:13:42.659
right on the photo, which is nice. But there

00:13:42.659 --> 00:13:46.240
was a big memorial that they held at the lighthouse.

00:13:46.940 --> 00:13:50.860
And it's the 110th anniversary. So the first

00:13:50.860 --> 00:13:53.820
use of the lighthouse. The doors are nice. Yeah,

00:13:53.840 --> 00:13:55.919
they did a pretty good job. We're going to see,

00:13:56.039 --> 00:13:59.159
if you look real close, you're going to see some...

00:13:59.549 --> 00:14:04.309
Oh, yeah. Hatchy items, to be fair. But it's

00:14:04.309 --> 00:14:10.009
been there a long time. And like a lot of lighthouses.

00:14:10.350 --> 00:14:14.169
Oh, yeah. I see how that happened. It is an effort

00:14:14.169 --> 00:14:17.309
to keep up. Yeah, boarded up windows and stuff

00:14:17.309 --> 00:14:22.529
is like par for the course. I get it. So good.

00:14:22.750 --> 00:14:26.129
Thank you. In the Cabo San Lucas area, there

00:14:26.129 --> 00:14:29.179
are... This is a very well -known lighthouse

00:14:29.179 --> 00:14:32.759
over 100 years old. Photos dating back to 1905.

00:14:33.100 --> 00:14:35.460
Now that I say that, did I include those photos?

00:14:35.799 --> 00:14:38.840
No. Because I have them. In case I didn't, I'm

00:14:38.840 --> 00:14:40.840
just going to wing for a second and show you

00:14:40.840 --> 00:14:47.120
two photos. So here's one supposedly from 1905.

00:14:47.700 --> 00:14:53.320
Dudes with donkeys and fantastic cats. I can't

00:14:53.320 --> 00:14:55.700
tell. I think there was a caption on this about

00:14:55.700 --> 00:14:58.509
the construction. of the lighthouse, whether

00:14:58.509 --> 00:15:00.409
it was recently completed or in the works. But

00:15:00.409 --> 00:15:02.750
you can see there is a lantern room on top of

00:15:02.750 --> 00:15:05.490
that tower. Yeah, there is. And at current day,

00:15:05.549 --> 00:15:10.549
there is not anymore. It's also like very Scottish,

00:15:10.830 --> 00:15:15.830
I think. The style? Yeah. Yeah. It's got a cupola.

00:15:16.350 --> 00:15:20.289
It appears to have a lightning rod on top. Nice

00:15:20.289 --> 00:15:23.409
little balcony there. Yeah, balcony with railing.

00:15:23.429 --> 00:15:25.850
So it's a full lighthouse. Obviously, there's

00:15:25.850 --> 00:15:29.450
a stair tower. But if this really was taken in

00:15:29.450 --> 00:15:31.850
1905, that kind of explains the quality of the

00:15:31.850 --> 00:15:34.070
photo. Yeah, and it looks like they, like why

00:15:34.070 --> 00:15:37.889
is the sky whited out? Like in a way that makes

00:15:37.889 --> 00:15:40.669
the lighthouse look like it's made of sand. I

00:15:40.669 --> 00:15:43.870
don't know. Don't know. It's interesting. But

00:15:43.870 --> 00:15:47.950
cool photo. And then we have one more construction

00:15:47.950 --> 00:15:51.750
of the tower. So the structure is not yet here.

00:15:52.730 --> 00:15:54.809
Another black and white. I think that's a person

00:15:54.809 --> 00:15:57.500
up by the cupola. Yeah, it looks like it. Just,

00:15:57.539 --> 00:15:59.299
you know, adding the finishing touches. I don't

00:15:59.299 --> 00:16:00.820
know what they're doing. But you see ladders

00:16:00.820 --> 00:16:02.539
and framework. And the framework is actually

00:16:02.539 --> 00:16:04.340
still there as you walk around the inside of

00:16:04.340 --> 00:16:07.500
that house. Oh, cool. I was going to say, it's

00:16:07.500 --> 00:16:10.440
cool that they build little wood frames for the

00:16:10.440 --> 00:16:12.740
doors before they build the stone around it.

00:16:12.919 --> 00:16:15.279
Yeah. Interesting. I mean, you'd have to have

00:16:15.279 --> 00:16:17.559
some kind of marker for building up the doors.

00:16:17.759 --> 00:16:19.039
Yeah, I don't know how. I've never thought about

00:16:19.039 --> 00:16:21.759
that. I don't know how this construction is categorized

00:16:21.759 --> 00:16:25.440
or how that really works. Very cool. Very cool.

00:16:26.019 --> 00:16:29.899
In 1905, the designer and the executor of construction

00:16:29.899 --> 00:16:33.960
for this lighthouse was the engineer Joaquin

00:16:33.960 --> 00:16:39.240
Gomez Palacios. Probably Joaquin. Joaquin. I

00:16:39.240 --> 00:16:41.879
tried. All right. A native of Madrid, Spain.

00:16:42.220 --> 00:16:44.539
Okay. Hey. So a Spanish man. Been there. He was

00:16:44.539 --> 00:16:46.960
the engineer and constructor. And we have been

00:16:46.960 --> 00:16:51.230
to Madrid. It was constructed at the turn of

00:16:51.230 --> 00:16:53.009
the 20th century. The lighthouse of the False

00:16:53.009 --> 00:16:55.690
Cape was built to guide ships safely around the

00:16:55.690 --> 00:16:57.889
peninsula's tip as they navigated through often

00:16:57.889 --> 00:17:00.590
rough waters. I can imagine. I never thought

00:17:00.590 --> 00:17:04.630
about having to sail around this long strip of

00:17:04.630 --> 00:17:08.109
land. Any peninsula, right? Often happens. So

00:17:08.109 --> 00:17:12.210
it's between the Pacific Ocean and the Sea of

00:17:12.210 --> 00:17:17.279
Cortez. Cortez. Yeah. Wasn't that the guy? It's

00:17:17.279 --> 00:17:20.160
inland of the Baja del Sur. Okay. So between

00:17:20.160 --> 00:17:24.740
there and mainland Mexico. So what are you saying?

00:17:24.859 --> 00:17:26.500
Isn't that the guy? Isn't that the guy? Cortez.

00:17:28.059 --> 00:17:31.359
Cortez. Pirate's name. Isn't that the guy? He

00:17:31.359 --> 00:17:37.160
was Spanish who came over to like find America

00:17:37.160 --> 00:17:41.509
or something? Let me do a quick look. That wasn't

00:17:41.509 --> 00:17:43.190
Christopher Columbus you're talking about. No,

00:17:43.210 --> 00:17:45.349
no, I'm talking about a Spanish guy. The Spaniards

00:17:45.349 --> 00:17:49.390
came to... Oh, Conquistador? Who led expedition

00:17:49.390 --> 00:17:52.769
that caused the fall of the Aztec Empire. Asshole.

00:17:53.009 --> 00:17:57.309
Okay, so I knew that. Rude. We lost significant

00:17:57.309 --> 00:18:00.230
culture because of this doofus. If you have seen

00:18:00.230 --> 00:18:05.210
the movie Apocalypto, I believe it is a depiction

00:18:05.210 --> 00:18:08.609
of Cortez at the end, landing. So is Road to

00:18:08.609 --> 00:18:13.779
El Dorado. no way yeah oh yeah that's what i

00:18:13.779 --> 00:18:16.240
thought of i was like you know when miguel is

00:18:16.240 --> 00:18:21.779
like have you side note have you seen apocalypto

00:18:21.779 --> 00:18:25.240
no it is a mel gibson directed the film okay

00:18:25.240 --> 00:18:28.160
so kind of a wild card but it's basically he

00:18:28.160 --> 00:18:30.779
uh i heard him interviewed recently he wanted

00:18:30.779 --> 00:18:33.900
to make a chase movie like a car chase except

00:18:33.900 --> 00:18:36.660
on foot that was the original premise that's

00:18:36.660 --> 00:18:41.389
i like those kind of movies and it's in the Aztec

00:18:41.389 --> 00:18:45.250
early Mexico days. I don't know intelligently

00:18:45.250 --> 00:18:48.369
how to say that, but cool movie. If you're interested,

00:18:48.529 --> 00:18:51.750
big action movie. Azteci is a term that I would

00:18:51.750 --> 00:18:56.750
use to describe. Azteci. So the Sea of Cortez,

00:18:56.789 --> 00:18:58.809
right, is the location for a lot of those ships.

00:18:59.029 --> 00:19:01.210
The location of the lighthouse was strategic,

00:19:01.410 --> 00:19:05.690
but also easily mistaken for the nearby Cape

00:19:05.690 --> 00:19:09.720
San Lucas. Oh, no. Thus the name. false cape.

00:19:10.180 --> 00:19:13.119
This is the false cape. Shoot. The lighthouse

00:19:13.119 --> 00:19:15.359
served faithfully as an aid to navigation and

00:19:15.359 --> 00:19:17.960
it was a welcoming site for ships arriving from

00:19:17.960 --> 00:19:23.440
distant ports. So recently, which is shown in

00:19:23.440 --> 00:19:27.160
this photo, the lighthouse was restored. So the

00:19:27.160 --> 00:19:28.720
restoration you're going to see, they did not

00:19:28.720 --> 00:19:31.960
put a lantern room atop the lighthouse, which

00:19:31.960 --> 00:19:34.480
kind of makes me sad. I think it's because the

00:19:34.480 --> 00:19:37.579
other lighthouse, which is Ferro de Cabo San

00:19:37.579 --> 00:19:42.569
Lucas, which I think was built 1980s. You can't

00:19:42.569 --> 00:19:44.990
really tell, but you're going to see where I

00:19:44.990 --> 00:19:47.609
think that. I think that's a real lighthouse,

00:19:47.789 --> 00:19:50.990
and it's still in action today. So you can go

00:19:50.990 --> 00:19:53.890
up to it. I'm getting ahead of myself. So the

00:19:53.890 --> 00:19:55.890
restoration of the old lighthouse was around

00:19:55.890 --> 00:20:00.210
the year 2000. In the late 1900s, not much more

00:20:00.210 --> 00:20:02.109
than a base remained of the lighthouse built

00:20:02.109 --> 00:20:05.049
in 1890. I thought 1905. Maybe that was the lighting.

00:20:05.609 --> 00:20:08.569
But the spectacular view. is still available

00:20:08.569 --> 00:20:12.329
from 500 feet above the water. 500 feet? A lot

00:20:12.329 --> 00:20:15.569
of the information I was able to find here on

00:20:15.569 --> 00:20:18.250
the old lighthouse is based off of people's experiences

00:20:18.250 --> 00:20:21.430
in visiting the area. So this is an anecdote

00:20:21.430 --> 00:20:28.549
from, let's say, the late 1990s. They say, in

00:20:28.549 --> 00:20:30.430
addition to the lighthouse, it has the remains

00:20:30.430 --> 00:20:34.250
of a shipwreck below. Turtles use the beach to

00:20:34.250 --> 00:20:36.490
lay their eggs, which I've seen photos of. Pretty

00:20:36.490 --> 00:20:39.839
cool. And to get there, go down this road, there's

00:20:39.839 --> 00:20:41.140
a dirt road, and then you're at the lighthouse.

00:20:41.720 --> 00:20:44.359
Access to this lighthouse has changed in how

00:20:44.359 --> 00:20:46.579
you can get there and what's there and what land

00:20:46.579 --> 00:20:49.240
it's on. And we will talk about that. But before

00:20:49.240 --> 00:20:50.880
I forget, I'm really not going to cover the other

00:20:50.880 --> 00:20:52.900
lighthouse much. I don't know much about it.

00:20:52.940 --> 00:20:56.140
But Faro de Cabo San Lucas. It's still there.

00:20:56.299 --> 00:20:59.039
It's an active aid to navigation. And you can

00:20:59.039 --> 00:21:00.980
get there. If you want to, there are hikes you

00:21:00.980 --> 00:21:03.839
can find to get to it. And there's a road that

00:21:03.839 --> 00:21:06.400
goes up to it. It's higher in elevation than

00:21:06.400 --> 00:21:08.839
this one, I think, by 200 feet. It's 700 feet

00:21:08.839 --> 00:21:12.440
up. That's crazy. Yeah. And I didn't think about

00:21:12.440 --> 00:21:13.859
it, but you can tell from this photo how high

00:21:13.859 --> 00:21:16.119
up we are above the water. It is. It just goes

00:21:16.119 --> 00:21:19.450
on forever. Yeah. It's beautiful. Beautiful spot.

00:21:19.670 --> 00:21:22.470
Wow. Okay, so they did a really good job restoring

00:21:22.470 --> 00:21:24.650
it, even though obviously it couldn't salvage

00:21:24.650 --> 00:21:27.289
the lantern room. So I'm showing images now from

00:21:27.289 --> 00:21:31.509
October of 1989 and then another image from 2014

00:21:31.509 --> 00:21:34.029
after the restoration. And they did some nice

00:21:34.029 --> 00:21:37.970
landscaping, did a nice retaining wall. That's

00:21:37.970 --> 00:21:40.930
what we're talking about. And good for them.

00:21:40.990 --> 00:21:43.069
I don't know if it's the city that does this

00:21:43.069 --> 00:21:45.349
or Mexico as a country. I don't know who funds

00:21:45.349 --> 00:21:48.690
it or does the work, but good for them. Before

00:21:48.690 --> 00:21:51.589
the restoration, it looks like maybe a fire or

00:21:51.589 --> 00:21:55.410
several fires happened in the facility. The large

00:21:55.410 --> 00:21:58.230
door to what else? I think it's the keeper's

00:21:58.230 --> 00:22:01.750
house is just gone. It's just laying on the ground.

00:22:01.789 --> 00:22:06.170
Yeah, it's like blown out. So likely it was vandalized,

00:22:06.170 --> 00:22:10.069
likely tourists and other humans and whatnot.

00:22:10.309 --> 00:22:16.599
So the restoration. Man, the restoration. did

00:22:16.599 --> 00:22:20.039
a really good job to make it into something that's

00:22:20.039 --> 00:22:23.880
really appealing to go by. I don't know if you're

00:22:23.880 --> 00:22:26.160
regularly allowed in. I couldn't find anything

00:22:26.160 --> 00:22:29.039
on tours, but I do have a couple ways that you

00:22:29.039 --> 00:22:30.660
can see this lighthouse that we're going to cover.

00:22:31.240 --> 00:22:35.880
I feel like the inside of the keeper's area would

00:22:35.880 --> 00:22:38.220
be the most exciting. Yeah. If you can't get

00:22:38.220 --> 00:22:40.299
up to the lantern room because it's not there.

00:22:40.500 --> 00:22:45.269
Oh, yeah. That would do it. So. I'm going to

00:22:45.269 --> 00:22:49.329
show you a video off of Facebook, and I do not

00:22:49.329 --> 00:22:54.430
speak Spanish. Once again. Okay. So I think this

00:22:54.430 --> 00:22:57.049
is a tourism promotion video, and I'm just going

00:22:57.049 --> 00:23:00.950
to let it play without volume while we kind of

00:23:00.950 --> 00:23:05.509
talk. But here's this gal, and she's going to

00:23:05.509 --> 00:23:08.609
take you to the lighthouse. Oh, she's taking

00:23:08.609 --> 00:23:11.069
us in? We will see the inside in some clips.

00:23:11.150 --> 00:23:12.750
So I think this is about four minutes, and I

00:23:12.750 --> 00:23:14.049
think it's just going to play while we talk.

00:23:14.150 --> 00:23:16.630
The doors are so beautiful. But small little

00:23:16.630 --> 00:23:20.450
squad of folks. So I'm going to talk about access

00:23:20.450 --> 00:23:24.970
to this lighthouse. So I have three dates where

00:23:24.970 --> 00:23:27.450
people made comments. So as of January 2008,

00:23:27.849 --> 00:23:30.890
which is before the restoration, the access road

00:23:30.890 --> 00:23:34.029
to the beach and the lighthouse has been chained

00:23:34.029 --> 00:23:37.250
off. There's a guard at the entrance gate advising

00:23:37.250 --> 00:23:39.849
the original access road is now private property.

00:23:40.069 --> 00:23:42.869
Shoot. Most of the area is undergoing some sort

00:23:42.869 --> 00:23:44.549
of development. We will continue to look for

00:23:44.549 --> 00:23:46.349
an access point at this section of the beach.

00:23:46.609 --> 00:23:50.210
Oh, no. Like, they're developing the area around

00:23:50.210 --> 00:23:55.750
the lighthouse? Yes. No! Yeah. That's so sad.

00:23:56.069 --> 00:23:57.450
You're going to see, and interrupt me anytime

00:23:57.450 --> 00:23:59.309
if you see something going on, but we will walk,

00:23:59.430 --> 00:24:01.950
they do walk through the lighthouse main areas

00:24:01.950 --> 00:24:04.980
here. So that was 2008. If you go back, I have

00:24:04.980 --> 00:24:06.880
a picture of people riding horses. It's not a

00:24:06.880 --> 00:24:08.700
very good quality picture, but it's in the 90s

00:24:08.700 --> 00:24:10.880
on some vacation. Riding horses on the beach

00:24:10.880 --> 00:24:13.079
down below. And you can see you can just go up

00:24:13.079 --> 00:24:15.759
to the lighthouse. There's like no, it's clearly

00:24:15.759 --> 00:24:20.180
open. No, it's just sand. How do you get up there

00:24:20.180 --> 00:24:23.140
from sand? You can hike up or ride the horses

00:24:23.140 --> 00:24:26.220
up. I feel like 500 feet is a lot. It's not a

00:24:26.220 --> 00:24:29.240
cliff, but it's 500 feet in quick elevation.

00:24:29.680 --> 00:24:31.640
It looks like a cliff. So we're seeing some shots

00:24:31.640 --> 00:24:35.519
of the inside. Wow. I think they show this spiral

00:24:35.519 --> 00:24:38.299
staircase terminating, like breaks halfway through.

00:24:38.940 --> 00:24:41.220
So this is post -restoration. So I'd say it's

00:24:41.220 --> 00:24:43.940
really focused on the outside, a lot of the improvements.

00:24:44.099 --> 00:24:45.880
And then, of course, the retaining wall we talked

00:24:45.880 --> 00:24:48.599
about. I think it's going to help the structure

00:24:48.599 --> 00:24:51.660
stay there for a while. Yeah, all being on sand.

00:24:51.900 --> 00:24:53.720
I don't think they've ever moved this lighthouse

00:24:53.720 --> 00:24:56.220
in what I saw. So the guy just pounding on the

00:24:56.220 --> 00:24:58.779
wall saying it's a strong structure. Something

00:24:58.779 --> 00:25:01.440
like that. I looked for translations and everything.

00:25:01.819 --> 00:25:05.019
Couldn't find it. 2008, there was development.

00:25:05.200 --> 00:25:09.180
No one knew what was happening. 2015, post -restoration,

00:25:09.519 --> 00:25:13.140
El Ferro Viejo, the old lighthouse, sits high

00:25:13.140 --> 00:25:15.200
on the dunes of the Pacific coast of Cabo San

00:25:15.200 --> 00:25:19.099
Lucas within Quivira Golf Course. The seventh

00:25:19.099 --> 00:25:22.619
hole is framed by El Ferro Viejo, a 19th century

00:25:22.619 --> 00:25:24.220
lighthouse that also happens to be one of the

00:25:24.220 --> 00:25:26.779
oldest structures in Cabo San Lucas. Founded

00:25:26.779 --> 00:25:29.470
in 1905. Some recurring info. The old lighthouse

00:25:29.470 --> 00:25:34.670
is currently available accessible via Kavira

00:25:34.670 --> 00:25:38.269
golf course and development. Okay. So they did

00:25:38.269 --> 00:25:41.250
allow people in when they were building the golf

00:25:41.250 --> 00:25:45.049
course and if you golfed. Okay. And then in 2021,

00:25:45.349 --> 00:25:48.190
renovations are being made around the old lighthouse,

00:25:48.329 --> 00:25:50.849
making it only accessible with a previous reservation

00:25:50.849 --> 00:25:53.930
for a guided visit in very strict hours. Okay.

00:25:53.950 --> 00:25:58.500
The entrance is via the Kavira golf course. And

00:25:58.500 --> 00:26:00.900
the old routes via the beach are in constant

00:26:00.900 --> 00:26:02.920
surveillance by the security of the golf course.

00:26:03.380 --> 00:26:05.680
So it's my understanding the only way, well,

00:26:05.799 --> 00:26:08.779
we'll get to some more ways. The best way to

00:26:08.779 --> 00:26:12.940
see this is to be a guest at the resorts. There

00:26:12.940 --> 00:26:14.920
are several resorts that get you access to the

00:26:14.920 --> 00:26:17.180
golf course. And you actually can go right by

00:26:17.180 --> 00:26:19.420
the lighthouse in between holes. You're going

00:26:19.420 --> 00:26:23.079
to see it on several holes. I would definitely

00:26:23.079 --> 00:26:25.140
do that. I think you don't actually have to play

00:26:25.140 --> 00:26:28.539
golf, but we'll get to that. You want to see

00:26:28.539 --> 00:26:32.359
it? I reached out to that resort owner to ask

00:26:32.359 --> 00:26:36.119
about access and to ask about golf greens fees.

00:26:36.299 --> 00:26:38.319
Like what does it cost if you want to go play?

00:26:38.400 --> 00:26:40.400
Cause it's a, it's a, we're going to get there.

00:26:40.440 --> 00:26:44.779
It's a beautiful course. So today the lighthouse

00:26:44.779 --> 00:26:48.279
is on the course and the course, I'm going to

00:26:48.279 --> 00:26:52.099
play another video on screen while I talk is

00:26:52.099 --> 00:26:54.720
incredible. And it's a minute long. I might actually

00:26:54.720 --> 00:26:56.519
play it a couple times just while I talk about

00:26:56.519 --> 00:26:59.539
the course. All right. But it's just like a very

00:26:59.539 --> 00:27:03.259
pretty, you know. So this is the course's content.

00:27:03.680 --> 00:27:05.559
So they're showing, look at the golf course.

00:27:05.640 --> 00:27:08.720
And also. Look at the water. Look at the, yeah,

00:27:08.880 --> 00:27:11.720
that's the Turtle Beach. Sorry for people who

00:27:11.720 --> 00:27:13.519
can't see what we're looking at. But go to our

00:27:13.519 --> 00:27:15.880
YouTube and YouTube can see. Please do check

00:27:15.880 --> 00:27:18.480
out the YouTube. Oh, the amount of balls we lose

00:27:18.480 --> 00:27:21.710
is. Just ridiculous. Yeah. You bring some extra

00:27:21.710 --> 00:27:24.950
balls, you'd have a good time. Don't worry about

00:27:24.950 --> 00:27:28.509
it. Have a margarita. But beautiful area. It's

00:27:28.509 --> 00:27:30.750
a whole resort, but the word golf is in the name

00:27:30.750 --> 00:27:33.170
of the resort. It's kind of their main feature.

00:27:33.759 --> 00:27:37.299
As club members and resort golfers at Quivira

00:27:37.299 --> 00:27:39.940
Golf Club can attest, the cart path that leads

00:27:39.940 --> 00:27:43.660
from the 6th Green to the 7th T skirts a jaw

00:27:43.660 --> 00:27:46.900
-dropping stretch of sheer granite cliffs before

00:27:46.900 --> 00:27:50.640
arriving at an equally unforgettable sight, the

00:27:50.640 --> 00:27:53.920
region's original lighthouse. Amazing. Situated

00:27:53.920 --> 00:27:58.299
at kilometer zero at True Land's End. Cool. Oh,

00:27:58.339 --> 00:28:01.970
that is cool. True Land's End. The exact place

00:28:01.970 --> 00:28:04.210
where the Sea of Cortez meets the Pacific Ocean,

00:28:04.390 --> 00:28:06.869
the fortress -like lighthouse is the oldest standing

00:28:06.869 --> 00:28:08.970
structure in Cabo San Lucas. Recurring information.

00:28:10.109 --> 00:28:13.369
Source of inspiration for poets, painters, and

00:28:13.369 --> 00:28:16.190
photographers, it is by far the most famous lighthouse

00:28:16.190 --> 00:28:20.910
in Baja, California, sir. It is also an enduring

00:28:20.910 --> 00:28:23.690
symbol of the region's navigational history and

00:28:23.690 --> 00:28:26.309
a cultural marker for the community. Very good.

00:28:26.410 --> 00:28:28.930
Even the most score conscientious golfer cannot

00:28:28.930 --> 00:28:31.009
help but marvel at the sturdy construction and

00:28:31.009 --> 00:28:34.750
octagonal stone tower at this national historic

00:28:34.750 --> 00:28:37.670
monument perched at the edge of a cliff more

00:28:37.670 --> 00:28:42.230
than 500 feet above the thrashing surf. Recently

00:28:42.230 --> 00:28:44.890
renovated, it was designed and built by the engineer

00:28:44.890 --> 00:28:47.869
we talked about, and while no longer operational,

00:28:48.269 --> 00:28:51.349
this sturdy edifice, fully exposed to the elements,

00:28:51.509 --> 00:28:54.829
has survived intact for over 110 years. Beautiful.

00:28:55.390 --> 00:28:57.029
Beautifully well written. Sorry, I'm reading

00:28:57.029 --> 00:28:58.970
and reading. Yeah, that's good. Peering down

00:28:58.970 --> 00:29:01.049
on the course from its rocky mountain perch nearly

00:29:01.049 --> 00:29:04.250
700 feet above the sea level is the newer Cabo

00:29:04.250 --> 00:29:06.950
Lighthouse, a cylindrical red and white striped

00:29:06.950 --> 00:29:10.170
tower that dates to 1959. I was wrong. Sorry.

00:29:10.309 --> 00:29:12.329
I don't even know my own content. Okay. No, it's

00:29:12.329 --> 00:29:15.490
fine. Ferroviejo may be dark, but this functioning

00:29:15.490 --> 00:29:18.369
lighthouse emits a white flash at night to guide

00:29:18.369 --> 00:29:21.589
ship traffic after dark. Interesting content

00:29:21.589 --> 00:29:24.190
from the course. I would say that they're doing

00:29:24.190 --> 00:29:26.750
a good job. Here's a shot kind of reverse of

00:29:26.750 --> 00:29:29.210
what we just saw of the two lighthouses before

00:29:29.210 --> 00:29:33.309
restoration. Pretty rough, to be honest. Yeah,

00:29:33.430 --> 00:29:36.690
that was on its way out before they fixed it

00:29:36.690 --> 00:29:39.809
up. So did the golf course fix it up, or you're

00:29:39.809 --> 00:29:42.210
saying you don't know who did the restoration?

00:29:42.210 --> 00:29:43.990
I don't think the golf course fixed it up, but

00:29:43.990 --> 00:29:47.049
I think the golf course purchased the land. Okay,

00:29:47.069 --> 00:29:50.210
because it is good. I could see how it would

00:29:50.210 --> 00:29:54.049
be a... like a pleasant point of focus for a

00:29:54.049 --> 00:29:56.190
golf course to be like, and look at this history.

00:29:56.269 --> 00:29:59.789
Look how beautiful. Yeah. And who knows? Like

00:29:59.789 --> 00:30:03.009
there's some weirdness with taxes. Oh, for sure.

00:30:03.170 --> 00:30:05.349
Historical sites in the United States. I don't

00:30:05.349 --> 00:30:07.789
know if Mexico has their own set of laws. Yeah.

00:30:08.609 --> 00:30:11.130
That I'm sure they do. I don't know. Oh my gosh.

00:30:11.150 --> 00:30:13.250
You could fall off the edge of any point of this

00:30:13.250 --> 00:30:15.769
golf course. Theoretically. Yeah. Just don't

00:30:15.769 --> 00:30:17.390
go over the edge. Don't go looking for your ball

00:30:17.390 --> 00:30:19.369
over there. Yeah. You're in that sand trap. Just

00:30:19.369 --> 00:30:22.140
pay attention. Oh my. Gosh, it's a sand trap.

00:30:22.240 --> 00:30:24.440
And the other side is just cliff edge. There's

00:30:24.440 --> 00:30:27.460
another green going up to the newer lighthouse.

00:30:27.640 --> 00:30:30.539
Beautiful. Some desert area. Obviously, it's

00:30:30.539 --> 00:30:32.720
a lynx course. It's a very difficult, narrow

00:30:32.720 --> 00:30:36.099
fairways. It's another green just down on a cliff

00:30:36.099 --> 00:30:40.119
edge. So beautiful. I imagine the wind would

00:30:40.119 --> 00:30:42.359
play hell on your shots. I mean, look at the

00:30:42.359 --> 00:30:45.740
flag. The flag is moving. It's straight out.

00:30:45.839 --> 00:30:47.259
Also, I don't know if you noticed, all the shots

00:30:47.259 --> 00:30:48.900
we've seen, the ocean has been kind of rough.

00:30:49.339 --> 00:30:51.319
And it's, like, choppy. It's not, like, even

00:30:51.319 --> 00:30:54.720
waves. Yeah. But. But it's very windy. We are

00:30:54.720 --> 00:30:58.019
going to look at the resorts here soon. It's

00:30:58.019 --> 00:31:00.920
nice. Oh, yeah. Is this you trying to pitch something

00:31:00.920 --> 00:31:02.980
for our honeymoon? No. We're not going to go

00:31:02.980 --> 00:31:05.140
to Mexico. That's the whole thing. Well, that's

00:31:05.140 --> 00:31:06.700
so sweet of you to actually, like, listen to

00:31:06.700 --> 00:31:10.000
my requests. And it's. I got to. For the people,

00:31:10.119 --> 00:31:12.720
they got to know. Why not Mexico, Emily? I just

00:31:12.720 --> 00:31:16.440
don't want to. I don't know why. You don't want

00:31:16.440 --> 00:31:18.579
to go here? I've heard no good stories about.

00:31:18.990 --> 00:31:20.970
like people visiting Mexico. It's always like

00:31:20.970 --> 00:31:23.650
getting sick from water or getting sick from

00:31:23.650 --> 00:31:27.170
drinks and food. And like, I have a fear of that.

00:31:27.289 --> 00:31:30.710
So I have an aversion to going to Mexico. I know

00:31:30.710 --> 00:31:33.470
that there's more good stories than bad, but

00:31:33.470 --> 00:31:36.150
like even one of my close friends from my friend

00:31:36.150 --> 00:31:39.529
group went to Mexico and got a parasite. What

00:31:39.529 --> 00:31:42.769
am I supposed to feel? Well, to be fair, and

00:31:42.769 --> 00:31:44.470
I don't want to turn you off to travel altogether,

00:31:44.789 --> 00:31:47.880
but I know that story from India. I know that

00:31:47.880 --> 00:31:50.440
story from China. I know. I even know that story

00:31:50.440 --> 00:31:55.240
from Germany. And usually, you know, us Americans

00:31:55.240 --> 00:31:57.380
have pretty consistent diets. We're eating foods

00:31:57.380 --> 00:32:00.579
that we don't usually eat. Way back in the day,

00:32:00.680 --> 00:32:04.740
parts of Mexico, like in Tijuana, like my dad

00:32:04.740 --> 00:32:08.200
told me a story of he saw ice being handled like

00:32:08.200 --> 00:32:12.640
on a sidewalk. No, no, no. That's a long time

00:32:12.640 --> 00:32:15.079
ago. Yeah. A very different place than where

00:32:15.079 --> 00:32:19.400
we're talking about. I think that you can be

00:32:19.400 --> 00:32:22.839
safe from getting sick if you eat at the right

00:32:22.839 --> 00:32:26.019
places and you're careful about water selection

00:32:26.019 --> 00:32:29.079
and whatnot. From what I read, especially in

00:32:29.079 --> 00:32:33.759
Mexico, that's really a thing of the past on

00:32:33.759 --> 00:32:37.599
all of the resorts and all of the nice developed

00:32:37.599 --> 00:32:42.180
areas. Anywhere that you would go, it's not a

00:32:42.180 --> 00:32:44.200
street vendor. A street vendor may have different...

00:32:44.730 --> 00:32:47.549
handling of food or whatever so maybe i don't

00:32:47.549 --> 00:32:49.549
know i don't want to turn everybody and and you

00:32:49.549 --> 00:32:52.250
off to traveling but i don't think it's mexico

00:32:52.250 --> 00:32:54.130
specific i know that's just where i've heard

00:32:54.130 --> 00:32:56.029
the most so it's just like it's one of those

00:32:56.029 --> 00:32:58.809
obvious ones that i'm like i don't want to go

00:32:58.809 --> 00:33:00.569
well you've probably heard it the most because

00:33:00.569 --> 00:33:03.130
it's the best place for us to travel here from

00:33:03.130 --> 00:33:07.369
the u .s affordable beautiful anyways i'm trying

00:33:07.369 --> 00:33:11.309
folks but we talked about how california or california

00:33:11.309 --> 00:33:15.079
how Mexico is not one of the places that we're

00:33:15.079 --> 00:33:18.000
looking right now for our honeymoon. Maybe a

00:33:18.000 --> 00:33:20.140
future trip to Mexico would be in the cards,

00:33:20.200 --> 00:33:23.359
but still working on it. Yeah, I'd have to, I

00:33:23.359 --> 00:33:26.519
don't know. I'd have to prepare myself. So I'm

00:33:26.519 --> 00:33:29.059
going to show us another site from the resort.

00:33:29.180 --> 00:33:32.799
So Pueblo Bonito is the name of the four resorts.

00:33:32.799 --> 00:33:35.700
Look at that. You see that? Yeah. The green is

00:33:35.700 --> 00:33:39.079
on a cliff. Very beautiful. Same area it's showing.

00:33:39.380 --> 00:33:42.200
How many balls do you think are down there? Oh,

00:33:42.200 --> 00:33:45.779
infinite. In the cracks of the rocks and stuff.

00:33:46.099 --> 00:33:49.839
Just such a beautiful place. And then you can

00:33:49.839 --> 00:33:51.680
go through and you can see, we're just going

00:33:51.680 --> 00:33:53.599
to browse for a little bit, but there are resorts.

00:33:54.599 --> 00:33:56.839
So that was the golf page. Oh, look at that.

00:33:57.259 --> 00:34:01.240
Specifically in Cabo, there are, what is this?

00:34:01.500 --> 00:34:06.700
Sunset Beach, Rose, Los Cabos, and then you start

00:34:06.700 --> 00:34:10.679
getting into Monte Cristo. But then there's also,

00:34:11.309 --> 00:34:14.809
I don't know how to say this. Mazatlan? Mazatlan.

00:34:15.389 --> 00:34:18.469
I don't know. A lot of these are, you know, right,

00:34:18.670 --> 00:34:21.789
so there's eight total. They're all on the oceanfront.

00:34:21.829 --> 00:34:23.750
This is the one I think I looked at was Pacifica.

00:34:23.750 --> 00:34:26.690
It's closest to the course. But you can play

00:34:26.690 --> 00:34:29.889
at the course if you're a guest. Or if you're

00:34:29.889 --> 00:34:33.590
an owner, there are, I have a fact sheet here.

00:34:34.329 --> 00:34:38.550
So, Cavera Las Cabos. There's a roughly 1 ,900

00:34:38.550 --> 00:34:42.590
-acre community. on a stretch of land destined

00:34:42.590 --> 00:34:45.969
to be the crown jewel of Los Cabos. Old lighthouse

00:34:45.969 --> 00:34:48.730
clubs, a private gated residential enclave, blah,

00:34:48.769 --> 00:34:53.949
blah, blah. And so there are, what's this? This

00:34:53.949 --> 00:34:57.650
is a bunch of homes, basically. 13 spectacular

00:34:57.650 --> 00:35:00.590
custom home sites nestled atop dramatic dunes

00:35:00.590 --> 00:35:03.590
perched 300 feet above the ocean. Prices start

00:35:03.590 --> 00:35:07.329
at $2 million. Oh, God. But it's all private.

00:35:07.449 --> 00:35:09.750
They say the average annual temperature is 78

00:35:09.750 --> 00:35:13.050
degrees Fahrenheit with 340 days of sunshine

00:35:13.050 --> 00:35:19.010
per year. Whoa. How is that possible? That's

00:35:19.010 --> 00:35:21.309
what I'm saying. Also, an average of 78 over

00:35:21.309 --> 00:35:24.550
the entire year makes me suspicious. What is

00:35:24.550 --> 00:35:28.769
it usually? 100 degrees? No, the average is 78.

00:35:29.110 --> 00:35:30.849
Yeah, if you take the average over the entire

00:35:30.849 --> 00:35:33.530
year, that can include some very low lows and

00:35:33.530 --> 00:35:39.139
very high highs. If we go to weather .com, let's

00:35:39.139 --> 00:35:41.900
look at, why is it so small? I don't know. We're

00:35:41.900 --> 00:35:43.639
looking at a 65 -inch TV, so I don't know if

00:35:43.639 --> 00:35:46.539
I'm blowing your guys' eyes away. So today, 71

00:35:46.539 --> 00:35:50.139
degrees. We're going to go to monthly. What?

00:35:50.800 --> 00:35:53.380
Oh, you're looking ahead. Maybe go backwards.

00:35:53.599 --> 00:35:57.039
No, it usually shows averages. Oh, sorry. Okay,

00:35:57.159 --> 00:35:59.199
never mind. It's not international. We don't

00:35:59.199 --> 00:36:01.900
get to have the nice things. But really what

00:36:01.900 --> 00:36:04.639
I want to do is look at this on hotels .com.

00:36:05.369 --> 00:36:09.130
So we're going to look at Pueblo Bonito, Pacifica

00:36:09.130 --> 00:36:11.329
was the one that I mentioned. All -inclusive.

00:36:11.429 --> 00:36:15.210
It's interesting. It's like this big resort building

00:36:15.210 --> 00:36:20.110
surrounded by just sand and rocks. Yeah. You

00:36:20.110 --> 00:36:22.650
know how a lot of resorts, they're not off by

00:36:22.650 --> 00:36:25.250
themselves. They're like nestled up to a bunch

00:36:25.250 --> 00:36:27.510
of other resorts. Yeah. They want to maximize

00:36:27.510 --> 00:36:33.380
the area. Yeah, there are. I think they own a

00:36:33.380 --> 00:36:35.179
big chunk of land and they have their resorts

00:36:35.179 --> 00:36:37.599
a little bit spread out. I think it keeps people

00:36:37.599 --> 00:36:40.039
probably from going between them maybe. Yeah,

00:36:40.039 --> 00:36:44.539
and it would feel more like exclusive. Yeah.

00:36:44.980 --> 00:36:48.800
Big, beautiful beach, cabanas. There's one of

00:36:48.800 --> 00:36:52.780
the rooms has a pool in the room like overlooking

00:36:52.780 --> 00:36:55.440
the ocean. Goodness gracious. Yeah, like a little

00:36:55.440 --> 00:36:58.099
infinity pool. Kayaking. Nice rock formations.

00:36:59.860 --> 00:37:04.000
Let's get back on track, comments. So if you're

00:37:04.000 --> 00:37:07.119
not a golfer, there are other ways that residents

00:37:07.119 --> 00:37:12.119
or guests of these places can visit Ferro Viejo.

00:37:12.800 --> 00:37:16.119
QLife, a lifestyle club that offers a comprehensive

00:37:16.119 --> 00:37:21.280
and synergistic approach to overall individual

00:37:21.280 --> 00:37:23.860
and group well -being, features yoga lessons

00:37:23.860 --> 00:37:26.099
in the beautiful location of the lighthouse.

00:37:26.619 --> 00:37:29.440
Oh. As well as guided tours through the natural

00:37:29.440 --> 00:37:32.679
trails around the lighthouse. Okay. While it's

00:37:32.679 --> 00:37:35.739
man -made, Ferro Viejo is every bit as iconic

00:37:35.739 --> 00:37:40.480
as El Arco, which is the natural sea arch visible

00:37:40.480 --> 00:37:42.260
from vantage points throughout Cabo San Lucas.

00:37:42.400 --> 00:37:47.159
Very famous large opening arch. So that is actually

00:37:47.159 --> 00:37:51.039
all I had. Wow. For one golf course, two lighthouses,

00:37:51.159 --> 00:37:54.420
Cabo San Lucas. I wish we could know more about

00:37:54.420 --> 00:37:57.880
the second lighthouse is like red and white striped

00:37:57.880 --> 00:38:01.719
on top of the crest of a... The high point, for

00:38:01.719 --> 00:38:04.679
sure. High point, yeah. I wish we could know

00:38:04.679 --> 00:38:07.199
more about it. White flashing? Yeah, white flash.

00:38:07.380 --> 00:38:09.820
There's some small buildings down here that are

00:38:09.820 --> 00:38:11.800
kind of cropped out of this photo. They might

00:38:11.800 --> 00:38:14.219
be like research stations. I don't think they

00:38:14.219 --> 00:38:16.579
have a keeper's quarters there. Yeah. But I think

00:38:16.579 --> 00:38:20.059
that it's probably news or weather, telephone,

00:38:20.360 --> 00:38:22.760
you know. Probably. Because of its position.

00:38:23.199 --> 00:38:26.159
Pretty cool. There is an airport there, Cabo

00:38:26.159 --> 00:38:27.860
San Lucas, so it might be related to that as

00:38:27.860 --> 00:38:31.920
well. Oh, true. Very nice. I've done some talking.

00:38:32.079 --> 00:38:35.699
I've got some people at work weighing in on if

00:38:35.699 --> 00:38:38.139
we had a t -shirt, what color the t -shirt would

00:38:38.139 --> 00:38:40.960
be. Really? Yeah. I said, what about these colors?

00:38:41.420 --> 00:38:44.079
Like which one would be the base t -shirt color?

00:38:44.639 --> 00:38:46.760
We're talking comfort colors, of course. Of course.

00:38:47.219 --> 00:38:49.539
I think the light blue that's on our tower is

00:38:49.539 --> 00:38:52.190
most appropriate. Yeah. And when I made a shirt,

00:38:52.389 --> 00:38:55.570
that's what I used. Yeah. I forgot about your

00:38:55.570 --> 00:38:59.389
shirt. I know. I saw it in the bottom of my drawer

00:38:59.389 --> 00:39:01.230
yesterday. I was like, oh, I've got to wear that.

00:39:01.750 --> 00:39:04.469
Yeah. I thought it was appropriate. Golf season's

00:39:04.469 --> 00:39:07.929
coming up. The Masters is coming. When's the

00:39:07.929 --> 00:39:12.369
Masters? April, I believe. And so I kind of did

00:39:12.369 --> 00:39:14.309
some research and thought maybe let's just cover

00:39:14.309 --> 00:39:17.030
one of these for now. Yeah, very good. I enjoyed

00:39:17.030 --> 00:39:20.059
that. Beautiful spot. If they want to sponsor

00:39:20.059 --> 00:39:22.539
us to go visit, that'd be great. That'd be spectacular.

00:39:22.679 --> 00:39:24.400
We can try out the course and let you know how

00:39:24.400 --> 00:39:28.059
many balls we lose. Well, you can check out our
